Continental Gripology - Online PromoShift approached Jump with a wonderfully detailed brief, key visual and storyboard for a set of online adverts featuring Continental's new range of mountain bike tyres. The tyres are aimed at downhill and enduro riders looking for extra grip in a variety of riding situations. 

Continental have gone big on the science and have created a set of exciting new compounds which will give a rider the competitive edge. The film had to combine the idea of  molecular science with representations of different riding conditions - the thread linking the piece together is footage of Gee Atherton, a Continental sponsored rider, flying down a slate quarry in Wales.

With a reference to the stylised silhouettes of the Casino Royale title sequence - we had to convincingly remove Gee from the slate quarry in Wales and place him within a CGI world which represents mixed terrain, wet, muddy conditions, loose, loamy conditions and rock/hard pack.

We had the Gee Atherton footage rotoscoped, before creating a shaded, silhouette version of him, removing branding on the bike and his clothing. Then the shots were tracked using After Effects and Cinema 4D. Geometry was then created around the rider, modelling an abstract riding surface as well as adding jeopardy through tumbling, dynamic rocks, oversized reflective rain drops, flying rock shards and crunching canyons. Surrounding the rider is dust, rain and loose rock as well as logos representing the different tyre types. Wherever possible, we have used our CGI environment to create slinky links between the shots which gives the sequence a seamless flow to match Gee's riding style.

Continental were able to provide us with the CAD drawings of the tyres which we re-created and textured in Cinema4D - animating a transition from the molecular world to the surface of the tyres before revealing the range in a branded packshot.


As a mountain biker myself it has been a pleasure to work on a sport which gives me immense pleasure. An understanding of the technology and market for the tyres has hopefully helped us bring authenticity to this fantastic campaign.

I look forward to shredding the trails with a new set of Continental Gravity tyres as soon as I can get my hands on some!

The Only Way Is Essex - Main TitlesLime pictures approached us with the exciting brief to redesign the TOWIE&#38;nbsp;logo and titles. The stars of&#38;nbsp;Essex&#38;nbsp;have moved away from showy bling and into a new, lighter, softer, less diamante defined phase and the graphics package needed to represent this.
With a cast restructure on the cards this was a chance to start afresh, and give this new season a brave new look. We ditched the sans serif and added a touch of elegance with a bespoke serif font - replacing the bar of the 'E' with our own diamond shape - inspired by the luxury brands the cast can be associated with.
Placed on a clean, white background the soft gold logo bounces light and soft shadows into the scene. The animated sequence sees the 'birth' of this new logo - emerging from the soft white surface, alabaster before becoming awash with gold.

I should probably fill in some gaps on my nonsense acceptance speech and thank Gabriel Silveira for his beautiful illustrations, Harriet Gillian and Sabine Volkert for the ridiculous hours they spent on this job, they went so far above and beyond I will be eternally grateful for their incredible animation and creativity. I did manage to give you guys a shout in the interview, and I hope everyone who watches it makes it that far through our ramblings!


Looking back through those ramblings I also didn't mention Callum O'Reilly and the incredible work he did on the composite, each scene features hundreds of layers of animation which he expertly integrated with all that 2012 Paralympic footage. By far his greatest achievement was being that steady hand I so desperately needed when the shit hit the fan and I was too frazzled and sleep deprived to give reasonable direction. You are a joy to work with.

I've been at Jump for nearly 10 years now and far from becoming part of the furniture, they have nurtured me, listened to me and helped me through some of the toughest days of my life. It is an honour to work for such a kind and loving company.

Rio 2016 Paralympic Games - TitlesWith a blank canvas brief from Channel 4 and their mantra 'Born Risky' ringing in our ears, we were able to let rip creatively. Armed with all the colours in the box and a reason to use them, we worked with cel animation to realise a set of truly fantastical ideas in this sequence.


London 2012 introduced us to 'The Superhumans', many of whom are now household names. We've selected six of our finest and have hand crafted beautiful expressions of their abilities, personalities and Paralympic glories through authentic Brazilian illustration and painstaking cel animation. Our sequence picks up our athletes from London 2012 and delivers them to Rio 2016 in an explosion of Brazilian energy and colour.

By animating directly on-top of footage from London 2012 we have been able to transport the athletes into a new world whilst retaining the visceral emotion which triggers such vivid memories of the incredible achievements in London.

Jonnie Peacock proudly struts with resplendent feathers. Ellie Simmonds becomes one with the water that she so effortlessly glides through. Hannah Cockroft engulfs her competitors with the power of a hurricane. David Weir transforms into an unstoppable 'Weir Wolf'. Sarah Storey, Paralympic Royalty, becomes liquid gold. Richard Whitehead blasts through his competition in the final 100m.

Viasat Explore Club - Broadcast PromoViasat approached us to create a number of animated sew-on scout-like badges in photo-realistic 3D for a series of promos for a new strand of programming on their Explore channel. Each badge references a particular genre on the channel eg. Fishing, extreme truckers, gold hunters.We were supplied the badge designs in 2D, we then created a simple 2D animated loop of the badge which was used to create a texture for the realistic fabric and thread work in Cinema 4D which was rendered in Redshift.The denim the badges are sewn to was taken from a jacket owned by one of the Viasat&#38;nbsp;team, who photographed various details - allowing us to generate a realistic background for the animated badges.

We’ve had plenty thrown at us the last couple of years, &#38;amp; who knows what is coming next… sometimes the only response is to BRING IT.

Bring the noise, bring the speed, bring the power, bring your A-game… Sport 24, always bringing it, wherever you are.

A ruthless edit of hard-hitting action with a soundtrack to match - drum &#38;amp; bass is on a comeback so we dove deep into the genre and with the help of the team at Echoic have created an absolute banger. We chose Ruth Royall to vocalise this punchy intent, whose killer delivery not only highlights what an incredible year of women's sport lies ahead but cuts through the filthy bassline with swagger.


This is the third in the series of yearly Sport24 brand promos and they always begin with the music - with a drum &#38;amp; bass track this year, we listened to lots to hone the style we were after. Once we were in the groove, we composed a lyric cloud for Ruth and Echoic to reference in their recording session. Once the lyrics were locked down, we were able to build our edit around them, syncing as much of the sentiment in Ruth's delivery with sports action and animation as possible.

The graphic wrapper this year is based on Sport24's impressive schedule, we created a dynamic, animated ticker which helps segment the edit and creates a clever framework to create the more awkward social aspect ratios.
